Last month, the TSWDB held its annual Board Retreat at Campbell University. Several board members and staff were in attendance to spend the day developing their knowledge of the new regulations under the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA), learn more about local area Labor Market Information, and gain a deeper understanding of Career Pathways.
Board members had the chance to hear updates from the Chief Elected Official Jim Burgin, learn more about business outreach from the Communications Committee, and gain a better understanding of the role and responsibilities of the Regional Operations Director for each prosperity zone. Attendees also had the chance to take part of a funny question and answer session facilitated by Central Carolina Community College’s Vice President of Economic and Community Development, Dr. Pamela Senegal. The session gave staff and board members the opportunity to get to know one another better by disclosing quirky facts about themselves. After the Q & A session, attendees reviewed the nominees for the 5th Annual TSWDB Awards Banquet and voted on the participant and employer award recipients as a group.
“The Board Retreat allows board members to be engaged and immersed in all things workforce development,” stated TSWDB Director Rosalind Cross. “This is the 7th year that the board has hosted a retreat and all members have stated that this all day event is time well spent.”
