TSWDB Success Story: Angela Reeves

Harnett County Dislocated Worker Program participant Angela Reeves.

Angela Reeves worked at the Factory Carpet Outlet in Pinehurst, NC for three years before she was laid off due to a merger. As a single mother of two, Angela struggled to make ends meet and realized that she was in need of additional training to find another job that would provide enough for her and her family, so she enrolled into the WIOA program with the Harnett County Department of Workforce Development in 2013.

After her WIOA enrollment, Angela began taking classes in the Medical Assisting Program at Central Carolina Community College. During the summer of 2015, Angela began an externship at Central Carolina Orthopedic, and because of her excellent communication skills and her ability to learn her job duties quickly, Central Carolina Orthopedic hired Angela as a permanent, full-time employee before she even finished her training program.

In May of 2016, Angela completed her Medical Assisting Diploma with a 3.7 grade point average. Currently, she is still employed with Central Carolina Orthopedic as a Surgical Scheduler earning $13.00 an hour. Angela’s job duties include front office administration, contacting insurance companies, and scheduling surgeries, MRI’s and CT scans. When the office has busy days, Angela also assists by helping take patients’ vital signs, height, and weight.

Angela loves her new career and thoroughly enjoys helping others, and the TSWDB takes pride in having the opportunity to share her story.
