The Triangle South Workforce Development Board will host its annual Young Adult and Youth Rally on June 23, 2017, at the Dennis A. Wicker Civic Center in Sanford, NC. This year’s theme, “Synergy: Get It Together,” emphasizes the importance of networking, through attendees engaging in interactive team building and interpersonal skills training activities. The acronym G.A.M.E. (Goals Accomplished with Motivation and Effort) stresses the importance of building personal relationships, not only to gain the support of others but to learn to be a supportive team player in your personal and professional lives.
The Starting Line Up
Youth and Young Adult attendees will be introduced to staff, board members, and providers of Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) Title Programs. The introduction will include highlights of the services provided by Workforce Development, Adult and Family Literacy, Wagner-Peyser, and Vocational Rehabilitation, and will demonstrate the importance of camaraderie and cohesiveness amongst team members in order to achieve the team’s mission and goals.
Get It Together!
A panel discussion with local young adults and community employers will take place that will focus on improving relationships between employers and young adults as job seekers. Moderators will encourage panelists to discuss their educational backgrounds, personal goals leading to their chosen career path, how they worked through obstacles and challenges, and where they are currently on their career pathway. Employer panelists will also address the importance of personal development in sustaining one’s career.
The Huddle is a team building exercise loosely based on the Phase 10 Card game. It encourages attendees to come and work together to form card phases. The more individuals work with another, the quicker the phases are achieved.
The Half-Time Show
A non-competitive showcase that allows for attendees to demonstrate creativity and team spirit. As group members, teams from Chatham, Harnett, Lee, and Sampson Counties will display their musical, poetic, comedic, or other talents. Best-in-Show will be awarded to each team.
Get Your Head in the “G.A.M.E.”
Self-Development, Career Planning, and Job Search are three major components of Career Management, and this workshop encourages attendees to engage in these components to increase their Career Management skills. In addition to Career Management, self-worth, confidence, healthy relationships, and self-care are just a few of the roundtable discussion topics Young Adults and Youth will have the chance to engage during these facilitated life coaching sessions.
The importance of community service and celebrating one’s accomplishments will wrap up the Young Adult and Youth Rally, with members of the TSWDB Standing Youth Committee recognizing all program participants with achievement awards for their accomplishments during the 2016-2017 program year. Lee County Partnership for Children was selected as the Young Adult and Youth community service project, and both program participants and partner agencies from Chatham, Lee, Harnett, and Sampson counties will work together to collect over 100 books for the organization.
