Jessica Newkirk was laid off from her job in July of 2014 and enrolled into the WIOA program in May of 2015. As a single mother, Jessica was definitely struggling to make ends meet, but she was determined to improve her quality of life and become self sufficient once again, so she enrolled into the Central Carolina Community College Certified Nursing Assistant Training Program.
Shortly after Ms. Newkirk began her training program, she was admitted to the hospital for a serious medical issue. Yet, Jessica did not allow her illness to interfere with her progress. Throughout her hospitalization, Jessica kept in touch with both her CCCC Instructor and WIOA case manager. After Jessica recovered, she was able to return to class without any excessive absences due to illness.
In April of 2016, Jessica completed the Nursing Assistant Training Program at CCCC. She also successfully passed the State of NC required written and performance exam needed to obtain her license.
Ms. Newkirk was placed in employment with Cambridge Hills in Chatham County NC in December of 2015. She was hired at $9.00 per hour and has maintained a good work history with the same employer since her hire date. Jessica works up to 32 hours per week and has become a self sufficient adult through training and her commitment to her employer.
