Jessica came to the WIOA Program as a single mother of two children who had recently been laid off from her job with Affinity Health Services in Dunn after being employed for three and a half years as a CNA earning $8.30 an hour.
Although the lay-off had a substantial impact on her finances, Jessica used the set back as an opportunity to pursue her career goals and enrolled into the WIOA Dislocated Worker program and began to pursue her LPN degree at Central Carolina Community College. Jessica managed to balance her role as a full-time mom and worked part-time as a CNA, while she worked towards earning her LPN degree.
In December of 2016, Jessica completed her studies and earned her degree as a Licensed Practical Nurse. In April of 2017, Jessica obtained full-time employment as an LPN at Universal Healthcare in Lillington earning $23 an hour, plus a night shift differential and weekend premium. Jessica thoroughly enjoys having the opportunity to help others as an LPN. She hopes to one day continue her education and become a Pediatric Nurse so she can work with babies.
On behalf of the Triangle South Workforce Development Board, and the Harnett County Department of Workforce Development, it was our pleasure to present Ms. Jessica Williams with the Outstanding WIOA Dislocated Worker Award at the TSWDB 6th Annual Awards Banquet on December 6th, 2017.
