Simone became a single mother at the age of 17. With an alcoholic parent and a sibling who is a former drug addict, Simone knew that she wanted a different path for her life, so she enrolled into the WIOA Youth Program.
Currently, Simone is enrolled in the Paralegal Technology program at Central Carolina Community College and is earning a 3.0 grade point average. She will complete her training in May of 2018 and plans to enroll at the University of North Carolina – Greensboro next fall. Simone’s ultimate career goal is to obtain a degree in law.
In addition to her studies, Simone completed a 480-hour Work Experience at the Phair Law Firm Office to obtain the hands on experience needed to advance in the field of Law. Simone also works part time on the CCCC campus as a student assistant earning $8.50 an hour.
Ms. Ross is an excellent example to youth of all ages that it is possible to overcome adversities and hardships and reach your goals, but only if you are willing to put in the work.
On behalf of the Triangle South Workforce Development Board, and the Harnett County Department of Workforce Development, it was our pleasure to present Ms. Simone Ross with the Outstanding WIOA Youth Award at the TSWDB 6th Annual Awards Banquet on December 6th, 2017.
