TSWDB 2016-2017 Program Accomplishments

During Program year 2016-2017, the Triangle South Workforce Development Board (TSWDB) accomplished many achievements. At our 6th Annual Awards Banquet, the board’s Chief Elected Official, Gordon Springle, highlighted some of those accomplishments to include the following:

• The TSWDB was successful at meeting WIOA performance measures! The Adult program met performance measures by an average of 103.5%, the Dislocated Worker program met performance measures by an average of 102.7%, and the Youth program met performance measures by an average of 95.6%.
• 13,535 individuals received Career Center services, 657 individuals received training services under WIOA Title I Adult, Dislocated Worker, and Youth programs, and over 1,000 of the total participants served were Veterans.
• The TSWDB Local Area provided over 22,000 staff-assisted services to 1,064 Employers. 119 of those employers were new to NCWorks Online.
• Career Centers in our Local Area successfully implemented over 250 hiring events and job fairs.
• The NCWorks Career Center in Chatham County held a grand “re-opening” event to celebrate their certification as a NCWorks Career Center.
• The TSWDB began building its social media presence by blogging, joining Facebook and Twitter, and transitioning to an electronic newsletter.
• Several TSWDB WIOA Service Providers and Standing Youth Committee members participated in the Belflex Junior Mentoring Program in Lee County. This academy assisted high school juniors and seniors with resume preparation, job searches, and professional dress.
• TSWDB Business Services collaborated with the Department of Commerce and a Local Area Employer to present to over 300 attendees at the NC Health Care Facilities Association Annual Convention & Expo in Greensboro.
• Lee County was certified as an NCWorks Certified Work Ready Community.
• The NCWorks Career Center-Lee County collaborated with the Salvation Army to host a career fair that brought together several Lee County jobseekers with local employers.
• Financial monitoring for the TSWDB went extremely well with no findings or recommendations made by the Department of Commerce.
• The TSWDB held a Career Pathways Leadership Training that allowed local area board staff, community college and career center personnel, and career center partners to gain certification as a Leader in Career Pathways.
• The TSWDB has also had several staff accomplishments over the last year to include:
  • Director Rosalind Cross receiving employee of the month for CCCC in January 2017;
  • Performance and Communications Coordinator, Adena Mitchell, being nominated for CCCC Staff Member of the Year and earning a certificate in Social Media Management from Rutger’s University Business School in December 2016;
  • Business Services Coordinator, Mike Peluso, began teaching Business Courses at CCCC;
  • Both Rosalind and Mike completed CCCC’s Leadership through Learning First program;
  • And Rosalind served on the selection committee for winners of the 2017 NCWorks Governor’s Awards of Distinction.
